Hong Kong stocks closed down 261.03 points, or 1.48 percent, at 17,407.80 on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 17,734.84 and 16, 999.54. Turnover totaled 79.18 billion HK dollars (about 10.15 billion U.S. dollars).
